T-money and Cashbee: how transit cards work in Seoul
A beginner guide to Korean transportation cards for subway, buses, taxis, and convenience-store top-ups.
Transportation cards such as T-money and Cashbee make daily travel easier in Seoul and many other areas. You can usually use them on subways and buses, and in some taxis and convenience stores. Buy a card at a convenience store or station kiosk, then top it up with cash or supported payment methods depending on the location. Tap when entering and, where required, tap when exiting or transferring. Keep a small balance buffer. If your card stops working, ask station staff or the convenience store where you bought it. For refunds or damaged cards, rules differ by card type and issuer.
